I can see how integrating literacy instruction will help them fully understand each new musical term and how it might relate to other words accorss the curriculum!”

My Approach

Teaching kids how to read, spell, and write  in a 1:1 setting is what lights me up and brings me an incredible sense of joy in my vocation.

I have my Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Special Education with a focus on using direct, systematic, explicit, and multi-sensory reading instruction for children with reading disabilities. Specifically, my dissertation focused on delivering an oral reading fluency intervention to elementary aged students.

In addition to using methods rooted in science-based reading research, I have found it necessary to artfully weave several other evidence-based methodologies together in order to perpetuate curiosity, actually master the language,  and instill a love of reading, spelling, and writing in my students which include: The Science of Linguistics and Structured Word Inquiry (I am currently studying with Gina Cooke). I also have a strong professional learning community that I am engaged with both locally and on-line. With that being said, I learn alongside my students everyday and it is so much fun!
