EPISODE SUMMARY

In Episode 7, I interview Dr. Gwendolyn Cartledge. Dr. Cartledge is a prolific researcher in the area of reading and culturally relevant material for diverse learners. She reflects on what it was like growing up as the only black girl in an all white school and the impact that has had on her research. She also talks about the importance of fostering 1:1 time to read with children; fostering a LOVE of books and learning; and fostering a growth mindset in emerging and reluctant readers. Dr. Cartledge gives us some good leads and advice on how to find culturally relevant material, specifically for African American children. It was so lovely to catch up with Dr. Cartledge. I hope you learn as much from her as I did during this interview! Please make sure to follow and leave a review for The Mindful Literacy Podcast! I would so appreciate the brief time it takes you to do this for the cause! Want to get involved in Mindful Literacy Columbus?
