Jessica is the Director of Mindful Literacy Columbus (501C3) and Principle of Mindful Literacy Practice (LLC). She specializes in teaching reading to children who have Dyslexia, ADHD, and D/deafness. She has taught in a large urban district; a state run school for the Deaf; and a small suburban district.  She has conducted research in a large urban district and charter schools.  Through a role with Battelle for Kids, she had the opportunity to author and lead trainings for teachers and districts all over Ohio on behalf of The Ohio Department of Education,  as well as coach teachers on formative instructional practices in a variety of rural districts. Dr. Bennett is a published researcher in half a dozen peer-reviewed journals and is an experienced presenter.

She is a three time Ohio State Graduate:

B.A. Psychology (2003)

M.Ed. Deaf Education (2005)

Ph.D. Special Education (2014)

With a deeply seeded passion for teaching literacy to children who learn differently, Jessica holds several “Orton-Gillingham” credentials:

Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioner and Educator, Associate

Academic Language Therapy Association, Certified Academic Language Practitioner

500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher

For fun she can be found watching historical fiction period pieces on Netflix or studying the Linguistics of English (including etymology, morphology, and phonology) with the brilliant Gina Cooke of Linguist Educators Exchange.

Yoga has been a life-line to her own physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being for over 20 years and to her experiences as a wife, mother, and teacher. She was introduced to yoga when she was a varsity rower at Ohio State (2002-2004).

She finds great joy in contemplating and connecting life’s lessons that are presented to her both on and off the mat.  She LOVES sharing her practices with students of all ages–especially young children and their caretakers. Jessica is a Live Lightly Contemplative Yoga Teacher (RYT-500) and is a student of Susan Ashley Hunt.

She lives in Columbus, Ohio with her husband Dan and is a student of their three young children.

Dr. Bennett has been navigating the special education system as a Licensed Intervention Specialist for 15 years and has been coaching parents and advocating for her students along the way.
